Molten Lava Steam

Fire Meets the Sea

The dramatic spectacle of molten lava flowing from Kilauea into the cold Pacific Ocean. This painting captures the violent yet beautiful creation of new land. Billowing clouds of white steam (laze) erupt where the glowing orange liquid stone meets the crashing turquoise waves, creating a high-contrast elemental battle.

The Palette of Creation

Deep charcoal blacks of hardened basalt provide the canvas for vibrant streaks of cadmium red and orange. The watercolor medium excels here, allowing the steam to look ethereal and the water to appear agitated and translucent.
