Happy New Year 2025
Hello, Belula family!
We’ve double-checked the servers, consulted the office succulents, and looked out the window. It appears that the future has arrived. It is officially a New Year.
If you’re anything like us, you’re probably wondering how this happened. Just yesterday it was March, and we were totally going to finish that ambitious oil painting series. Now the calendar has flipped, and that painting is still sitting in the corner judging us with its blank, gessoed stare.
But hey, we made it.
To celebrate the turning of the page, we thought about writing a deeply philosophical post about the nature of time and artistic growth. Then we realized we’d rather talk about the reality of being a creative person on January 1st.
The "New Year, New Me" Lie
We all tell ourselves the same lies right about now.
-
"This year, I will wash my brushes immediately after using them, instead of letting them harden into dangerous, spiky weapons."
-
"I will not buy any more notebooks until I fill the 47 empty ones currently under my bed."
-
"I will finish a project before starting three new ones."
Look. We love the optimism. We really do. But let's be real—part of the charm of being an artist (or just someone who likes pretty things) is the glorious mess.
If your creative process doesn’t look like a glitter factory exploded inside a stationery store, are you even trying?
Our Wish for You
So, we aren't going to wish you a perfect year of flawless productivity. That sounds exhausting and frankly, a little boring.
Instead, here are our actual wishes for the Belula community this year:
-
May your eraser shavings always land in the trash can, and not in your coffee mug.
-
May you finally find that one specific shade of blue marker that went missing in October.
-
May you have the courage to make ugly art. Seriously, make terrible things. It’s fun, and it scares the perfectionism demons away.
-
And most importantly, may you realize that even on the days you create absolutely nothing, you are still a masterpiece in progress. (Cheesy? Yes. True? Also yes.)
We have so many exciting, weird, and wonderful things planned for belula.art this year. We can't wait to show you what we've been cooking up.
Until then, go forth and make a mess. We’ll be right there with you.
Happy New Year!
XOXO,
The Belula.art Team (Currently trying to wash acrylic paint out of our hair)
Here’s to a brilliantly messy New Year!
